Merwede Bridge Reopens Earlier Than Expected as Work Finishes Ahead of Schedule
The Merwede Bridge on the A27 highway near Gorinchem reopened earlier than planned due to successful construction work managed by Rijkswaterstaat. The project involved replacing the existing asphalt layer with a thinner, lighter one to reduce the bridge's weight by approximately 400 tons, ensuring safety during the construction of new bridges. A speed limit of 70 km/h is now in place due to potential height differences at joint transitions.
