Journalist Evan Gershkovich Served 16 Months in Russian Prison: 'I Knew I Would Not Get a Fair Trial'
American journalist Evan Gershkovich is releasing a book detailing his 16 months in Russian captivity, during which he was accused of espionage and sentenced to 16 years. He will deliver the first Derk Sauer Lecture on press freedom at De Balie in Amsterdam on October 31. Gershkovich was arrested in Yekaterinenburg in March 2023 after an FSB sting operation while investigating Russia's defense industry for The Wall Street Journal.
