Packages from China to Cost an Additional 2 Euros Starting in November
Starting in November, European Union countries will impose an additional 2 euro levy on goods ordered from outside the EU, bringing the total fee to 5 euros when combined with a previously introduced 3 euro charge. Although businesses bear the initial cost, they are likely to pass it on to consumers, making packages more expensive. This measure aims to encourage bulk shipping and cover customs control costs, following a surge in individual parcels from Chinese retailers like AliExpress, Shein, and Temu that reached 1.7 million daily last year. While recent import fees reduced parcel volumes by 75 percent, State Secretary Eerenberg stated that further measures remain necessary due to the still-large volume of incoming packages.
