Toilet Visit During Exam Leads to Invalidated Test for Student
A master’s student in psychology at Tilburg University had her gerontology exam declared invalid by the examination board after leaving the exam hall without supervision. Although she obtained permission from a proctor due to urgent need, the absence of a second proctor meant she left alone, violating rules designed to prevent fraud. The board ruled that it could not verify if she completed the test herself, despite her written defense and the lack of alternative options. The university acknowledged that exam organization could be improved and is discussing clearer communication of rules. The student eventually retook and passed the exam scheduled for June 7, closing the matter.
