Bulgarians Find Possible Oldest Beer Brewing Site in Europe
Archaeologists in Bulgaria have discovered traces of a beer brewing site dating between 5,600 and 4,350 BC at Solnitsata, near Provadia. Excavation leader Vassil Nikolov and his team found a split vessel containing sprouted wheat grains, suggesting beer production occurred around 4,500 BC. This discovery may represent the earliest evidence of beer production in Bulgaria and potentially all of Europe, predating previous findings in Spain from 4,300 to 4,000 BC.
