Extended Camera Surveillance Around Apartment Building After Two Explosions in Short Time
The Zoetermeer municipal council has decided to keep surveillance cameras installed in the Meerzicht district, specifically around Vrouwenhuiswaard and the Schansbos and Savelsbos areas, until at least February. This measure follows two explosions near an apartment building on July 13–14 and aims to prevent further disturbances to public order. The Local Triad coordinated with the college of mayor and aldermen to implement this extended monitoring, which also covers local schools where youth nuisance had previously been an issue. While residents and school staff still report feeling unsafe at times, the municipality argues that removing the cameras risks a return of overactivity. The broader camera surveillance strategy for 2022–2026 is currently under evaluation, with the council scheduled to receive final results in late 2026 to decide on future urban security measures.
