Many People Have Too Many Chemicals in Blood, but Numbers Are Declining
A recent RIVM study reveals that 71 percent of Dutch people have excessive levels of PFAS chemicals in their blood, though this figure represents a decline from previous years. The research analyzed blood samples from nearly 1,000 donors at Sanquin blood bank. While still high, the decrease is attributed to bans on specific substances like PFOS, PFOA, and PFHXS due to health risks. Elevated levels were particularly noted in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen near the Westerschelde and around the Chemours factory in Dordrecht. Although these concentrations are not immediately life-threatening, they may impact vaccine efficacy and liver health, prompting calls for stricter EU-wide bans.
