Transport Security Officers to Gain Access to Driver’s License Register
Starting October 1, public transport security officers (BOAs) in the Netherlands will gain access to the driver’s license register to verify identities of fare evaders or troublemakers more quickly. State Secretary Bertram announced that employers can apply for this authority from Thursday, addressing a long-standing need as BOAs currently rely on police when individuals lack ID. While Bertram calls it a significant step forward for over 12 million registered drivers, the Data Protection Authority (AP) argues it is unsuitable since most offenders do not hold licenses.
