More Deaths from Falls, Largest Increase Among Those Aged 90 and Older
The Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reported on Tuesday that over 7,800 people died from fall-related accidents in 2025, a rise from more than 7,300 the previous year. This upward trend is attributed to an aging population, with over three-quarters of victims being aged 80 or older and the most significant increase occurring among those aged 90 and above. While falls are most common in winter due to slippery conditions, SafetyNL noted that 124,000 seniors required emergency care last year, prompting calls for risk assessments during Fall Prevention Week.
