More Sun in 2026 Than Normal for a Full Year, Especially in the Southeast
As of now, the Netherlands has recorded approximately 1,825 sunshine hours in 2026, exceeding the average total for an entire year. If current trends continue, the year could reach about 2,080 hours, potentially ranking among the five sunniest years on record. The region experienced significantly more sunshine than usual from March to July, with increases of 26 to 40 percent. February was the only month with less sunshine, while the southeast, particularly Maastricht, saw the highest deviation at 24 percent above normal.
