Years After Infection, Situation Remains Hopeless for Many Post-Covid Patients
A study by Frisius MC and UMC Groningen found that only 12 percent of 1,155 post-covid patients in the Netherlands had largely or fully recovered three years after infection. Epidemiologist Edith Visser reported that 18 percent had worsened, while the majority remained stable with significant symptoms. Pulmonologist Jolanda Kuijvenhoven noted that the diverse group continues to face substantial impacts on daily life and work, with 35 percent no longer working and 30 percent reducing their hours. Although epidemiologist Frits Rosendaal cautioned that response bias might affect the data, he acknowledged a substantial portion still suffers from serious complaints. The findings align with RIVM estimates of 400,000 Dutch citizens experiencing post-covid symptoms, highlighting the persistent need for care and understanding.
