Infantino hints at FIFA reforms after share plan failure
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has officially withdrawn his controversial commercialization plan to sell shares in future World Cups, following threats of a UEFA boycott and internal criticism. In a letter to the 211 member associations, Infantino confirmed the proposal is cancelled but indicated he remains committed to the organization and will not step down ahead of the March 2027 election. He proposed hiring an independent external party to review FIFA's organizational structure, with the board discussing this reform measure during a meeting on October 15. Although operational director Kevin Lamour resigned over the plan, Infantino stated he retains full confidence in his ability to improve transparency and reliability within the federation.
