CvdM: Women Underrepresented in Media
The Dutch Media Authority (CvdM) reported in its Monitor Representatie 2025 that women and people with disabilities remain underrepresented in non-fiction media. The analysis of 954 popular programs and 581 online videos from NPO, RTL Nederland, and Talpa Network found that women constitute only 39 percent of television figures, a figure unchanged since 2019. Additionally, just 0.7 percent of individuals in well-viewed non-fiction programs have a visible disability. The CvdM expressed regret over the lack of substantial improvement despite ongoing efforts by broadcasters. The authority urged media companies to improve representation and explain why progress has stalled, while also calling on the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to consider policy choices for structural change.
