Merwede Bridge reopened early after maintenance work
The Merwede Bridge near Sleeuwijk reopened earlier than scheduled on Saturday evening following successful maintenance by Rijkswaterstaat. The existing asphalt layer was replaced with a lighter one to reduce the bridge's weight by approximately 400 tons, ensuring safety during the construction of new bridges. A speed limit of 70 km/h remains in place, and heavy vehicles are still prohibited due to structural concerns identified in July.
