Government tackles housing shortage with 50 concrete actions: faster, more and better building
The Dutch cabinet has presented the Action Plan for Accelerating Housing Construction, featuring 50 measures to address the severe housing shortage. Minister Boekholt-O’Sullivan aims to halve the average eight-year design and permitting timeline by 2030 through digitalization and parallel processing. The plan includes ten new national large-scale housing locations, €7 billion in funding for affordable housing until 2035, and additional capacity for municipalities. It also addresses grid congestion and nitrogen issues while establishing a National Acceleration Table to resolve project bottlenecks directly with builders, developers, and local authorities.
