Zirkzee Replaces Injured Brobbey in Oranje Squad, Memphis Depay Snubbed Again
Joshua Zirkzee has been called up by national team coach Xavi Hernández to replace Brian Brobbey, who was injured during the Nations League match against Germany on Thursday. Zirkzee will join the squad on Friday and travel to Serbia for Sunday’s game, followed by a match against Greece and another against Serbia. With Zirkzee's inclusion, Xavi now has two strikers available: Mexx Meerdink, who made his debut against Germany after being added to the roster following Donyell Malen's absence, and Memphis Depay. However, experienced players Memphis Depay and Wout Weghorst were again overlooked, as was Zian Flemming.
