When will Israel stop treating its Arab citizens as guests?

Yonatan Touval argues that while Israel’s Arab citizens have long been asked to prove their readiness for partnership, the state and its Jewish political class have not reciprocated. Despite Arabs comprising over one-fifth of the population and holding key roles in healthcare, their political inclusion remains conditional. Although Ra’am joined a coalition in 2021 securing funding, much of the Jewish political class viewed this as improper. Upcoming elections on October 27th may force parties to reconsider, though most leaders promise to govern only with Zionist parties, except for left-wing Democrats who support Arab participation.
