North Brabant Offers Itself as Test Site for Spatial Planning Challenges
Deputy Wilma Dirken (VVD) of North Brabant has offered the province to the Dutch government as a pilot site to manage conflicting spatial demands such as housing, defense, and energy. The initiative aims to find ways to combine these national tasks despite limited space, starting with a test in Woensdrecht where nitrogen pollution threatens construction projects. Between 2023 and 2035, the province must build 165,000 new homes while dealing with a full power grid and strict environmental regulations.
