OV-boa’s get access to driver’s license register
Starting October 1, employers in public transport can apply for OV-boa’s (public transport security officers) to access the driver’s license register. This allows them to independently verify identities using passport photos from the register, reducing reliance on police assistance which often leads to aggression and escalation. Staatssecretaris Annet Bertram stated this measure improves social safety in public transport by addressing frustrations faced by boa’s who currently struggle to identify individuals without ID documents. Approximately 42% of boa’s face daily situations where they cannot independently verify identity, often resulting in missed fines due to police wait times. The government aims to explore access to other registers like the criminal justice database and foreigner records by 2028, while also implementing additional safety measures such as bodycams for NS conductors.
