Mental Health Worker Nearly Beaten to Death by Patient, Receives TBS Order with Compulsory Care
The court in Den Bosch sentenced Patrick H., a 51-year-old patient with schizophrenia and a personality disorder, to two years in prison followed by compulsory care (TBS) for attempted murder of nurse Jan at Huize Padua in Boekel. On October 24, 2025, H. attacked Jan after being placed in isolation, striking him over twenty times and attempting to strangle him. Colleagues intervened to save Jan’s life. The court noted H.’s diminished responsibility but stressed that violence against care workers is unacceptable. Jan was awarded over €30,000 in damages.
