SER Says Talent of Status Holders and Asylum Seekers Is Underutilized
The Sociaal-Economische Raad (SER) advises that the talents of status holders, asylum seekers, and displaced persons are insufficiently utilized in the Netherlands. SER Chairman Kim Putters emphasizes that work should be central to newcomer policy to address labor shortages, noting that current procedures waste time and motivation. While 57% of status holders have paid work after eight years, many jobs are below their qualification level. The SER recommends municipal guidance and sectoral agreements to integrate newcomers more effectively, supporting Minister Thierry Aartsen’s goal of employing 75,000 additional newcomers by 2030.
