First direct flight between New York and Sydney will last 18 hours
Qantas announced that commercial non-stop flights between Sydney and New York will begin in mid-2028, reducing travel time by over three hours. The 18-hour journey will use twelve specially equipped Airbus aircraft with an extra 20,000-liter fuel tank, capable of flying more than 16,000 kilometers. Bookings are expected to open from August 2027.
