Package Orders from China to Become Significantly More Expensive Starting in November: Here Is What You Will Pay
Starting in November, consumers ordering packages from outside the EU, such as from Chinese platforms Temu and Shein, must pay a 2 euro handling fee on top of an existing 3 euro tax introduced earlier this year. The European Commission aims to use these fees to fund customs controls and deter the influx of low-value goods, which reached 5.9 billion items in 2025 with only 0.0065 percent inspected. The charges are calculated per product group, meaning a single order can incur multiple fees plus VAT, significantly increasing costs. European officials view this as necessary to combat unfair competition and ensure customs receive adequate resources for inspection.
