Leiden to keep city center alcohol-free around October 3, with sales only allowed in hospitality venues
The municipality of Leiden has made the alcohol ban for supermarkets, snack bars, liquor stores, and evening shops permanent during the Leidens Ontzet festival. The prohibition applies from October 2 at 12:00 until October 4 at 06:00 within the city singels, on Stationsweg, and Stationsplein. While retail sales are banned, hospitality venues may continue to serve alcohol. A previous pilot showed reduced litter, fewer disturbances, and fewer intoxicated youths, leading to the APV amendment that allows the city to enforce this measure annually.
