Emperor Naruhito Postpones Visit to Earthquake-Affected Area
The planned visit by Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to areas hit by a powerful earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture in July has been postponed until Wednesday due to bad weather. Japanese media reported that helicopter flights became too difficult under current conditions. The imperial couple was originally scheduled to fly from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to the southwestern prefecture before traveling by helicopter to cities including Yatsushiro and Uki. The region suffered a magnitude 7 quake on the Shindo scale at the end of July, resulting in 38 deaths.
