Mensje van Keulen to Write 2027 Boekenweek Gift with Theme 'Look at Us Now'
The CPNB announced that author Mensje van Keulen will write the Boekenweekgeschenk for March 2027, a decision described as an honorific tribute to her impressive body of work. Van Keulen, celebrated as a literary icon and recipient of the Constantijn Huygensprijs, accepted the request after brief consideration, noting it felt like encouragement from a character in a story she had not yet written. The annual event's theme is "Kijk ons nou" (Look at us now), emphasizing how reading allows people to observe human behavior and recognize themselves in literature. Japke-d Bouma, known for her NRC columns on office life and emancipation, will write the thematic edition. Both authors are finalizing their manuscripts, with titles remaining secret until shortly before the event runs from March 10 to 21, 2027. Customers receive Van Keulen’s book as a gift with purchases over 17.50 euros, while Bouma’s practical guide is available for 5.25 euros.
