Water boards seek stricter rules for wastewater
Brabant water boards, in collaboration with the province and environmental service, are proposing stricter regulations to prevent companies from discharging harmful substances like PFAS and metals into wastewater. Waterschap Brabantse Delta developed the initial plans, emphasizing prevention over removal due to technical limitations. The new policy is expected to take effect after the third quarter of 2027, requiring licensed businesses to avoid contamination and subjecting them to more frequent inspections. Households and unlicensed entities will receive additional guidance. While extra purification steps were considered, they were deemed too costly and complex, so the focus remains on limiting discharges at the source.
