Press Association: Journalist Pushed into Water Deserves Compensation
The Foreign Press Association in the Netherlands (BPV-FPA) has demanded compensation, an investigation, and formal apologies for Spanish photojournalist Nacho Calonge, who was pushed into water by a police officer during the Malieveld riots in The Hague. BPV-FPA president Imane Rachidi stated that Calonge suffers from physical injuries to his leg and mental distress, noting that his damaged equipment prevents him from working. The association argued that the difficult circumstances of policing a violent demonstration do not justify unnecessary force against a clearly identifiable journalist holding a press pass, and emphasized concerns that no officer assisted Calonge out of the water initially.
