Radiohead Singer Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood Exhibit 'History of Our Mistakes' in No Go Elevator
Radiohead singer Thom Yorke and artist Stanley Donwood are presenting their new collaborative work, No Go Elevator, at Galerie De Schans. The exhibition features drawings created in 2022 in London, utilizing materials such as egg tempera, gold leaf, and walnut ink. Yorke and Donwood describe the pieces as revealing the history of their errors, as drawing allows no corrections unlike painting. Inspired by isometric architectural drawings and webcam screenshots, the series depicts flat, recognizable figures within unsettling scenes involving oil-spewing chimneys. Although the atmosphere suggests a dystopian science fiction narrative, the artists emphasize they are currently happy. Yorke’s accompanying texts invite viewer interpretation, creating a third associative work alongside the images. This collaboration marks over thirty years of partnership, during which the duo has designed all album covers for Radiohead.
