Justice Department Unprepared as Patrick (52) Delivers Thousands of Kilograms of Fireworks
Following a nationwide fireworks ban effective August 1, residents in Enschede were invited to anonymously surrender illegal pyrotechnics without penalty. While most attendees brought small amounts, Patrick Langenberg arrived with a truckload containing approximately 800 kilograms of fireworks, including commercial-grade items marked with hazard labels. The sheer volume surprised collection staff, who had not anticipated such large-scale submissions from a single individual. Langenberg, known for his restaurant and fireworks business, stated he was disposing of remaining stock that could no longer be sold legally. Due to the quantity, special handling by the Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal service was required, and a larger transport vehicle was dispatched to remove the hazardous materials safely.
