Construction of 8,000 Homes in Zuidplaspolder Moves Closer as Minister Withdraws Appeal
Infrastructure and Water Management Minister Vincent Karremens has withdrawn the state's appeal against building a new village in the Zuidplaspolder, bringing the construction of 8,000 homes closer to reality. The decision follows agreements with South Holland province and the municipalities of Gouda and Zuidplas to jointly invest approximately 200 million euros in accessibility measures, including road connections to the A12 and A20 highways and a bicycle bridge over the Gouwe. While Rijkswaterstaat and the Hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard have retracted their legal challenges, appeals from several businesses and residents remain pending before the Council of State for review in late November. The municipality of Zuidplas aims to begin construction of the new village, named Cortelande, in 2028.
