Health Council Advises Improvement of 13-Week Ultrasound: Risks Now Outweigh Benefits

The Dutch Health Council advises the government not to permanently implement the 13-week pregnancy ultrasound due to high rates of false positives and missed abnormalities. Vice-chair Selma Tromp noted that while 531 defects were found, 680 could have been detected if earlier screening had been more accurate. The council suggests merging the scan with the 10-week dating ultrasound or refining protocols to reduce errors before making it permanent.
