Pope Leo XIV Addresses Approximately 700,000 People in Paris
Pope Leo XIV celebrated a large open-air mass at the Place de la Concorde in Paris, with the Vatican estimating attendance at around 700,000 people. He was transported through the city in his popemobile along the Champs-Élysées, greeted by crowds waving French and Vatican flags. The city center was largely cordoned off for his arrival on Friday, which included a visit to Notre-Dame and a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron. While Macron did not attend the mass due to the strict separation of church and state in France, his wife Brigitte was present.
