Major Blow to Deepfake Platforms: US Takes Down 12 Websites, but Abuse of Celebrities Continues
Despite a recent international operation that seized and took down twelve major deepfake websites, another large platform hosting hundreds of AI-generated videos of Dutch celebrities remains active. The foundation Stichting Offlimits is urging the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) and the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) to intervene, noting over 18,000 accounts list the Netherlands as their origin. While US authorities recently seized domains like SexCelebrity.net in what officials call the largest deepfake takedown to date, abuse persists.
