In Nijmegen, the 'Real' Library Donates Books to Mini-Libraries
The public library in Gelderland-Zuid has partnered with hundreds of mini-library owners in the Nijmegen region, expanding its network to 350 locations. Manager Wouter van Balveren explained that the initiative aims to utilize existing enthusiasm for reading by supplying mini-librarians with new books from the main library’s surplus. The collaboration includes regular book markets where owners can select titles matching their preferences and connect with others managing similar community spaces. In return, mini-libraries are asked to direct visitors to the main library, promoting broader access to literature and fostering community engagement.
