Norwegian telecom company possibly involved in crimes against humanity in Myanmar
Norwegian police raided Telenor’s Oslo headquarters on February 1, 2024, following suspicions of complicity in crimes against humanity in Myanmar after the 2021 coup. Kripos and PST launched separate investigations, resulting in charges regarding customer data transfers to the military regime between February 2021 and March 2022. TML served over 18 million customers then. A Swedish NGO previously sued Telenor for sharing activist data leading to executions. Telenor claims it faced impossible choices risking employee lives, stating it cooperates fully with authorities while denying individual charges.
