Zombie Drug Leaves Liberian Women Vulnerable, Rehab Clinic Offers Hope
Women in Liberia are facing heightened vulnerability amid a crisis involving kush, a synthetic designer drug containing potent nitazene opioids linked to thousands of deaths in West Africa. Research indicates that the United Kingdom and the Netherlands are primary suppliers of the drug's raw materials, which are shipped via air and sea mail. Due to stigma and fear of losing custody of their children, many female users struggle to seek help, increasing risks of exploitation and severe withdrawal symptoms. In response, Gertrude Harris founded the Women Rescue Daughters clinic outside Monrovia, providing nine months of medical treatment and vocational training for women who voluntarily enter the program without foreign funding.
