Minister sees no possibility to retain potential cold case data longer
On 2026-09-09, Minister Van Weel told the Dutch House of Representatives he sees no legal way to extend the retention period for police data that could help solve cold cases, despite broad parliamentary support. Current law requires most police data to be destroyed after ten years, even if it might aid unsolved cases.
