Minister Announces Investigation into Sperm Donation but Remains Vague on Mass Donor Simon
Dutch Health Minister Sophie Hermans has not explained why the ministry ignored a 2017 signal regarding mass donor Simon, who fathered at least 121 children. While the minister expressed regret for the uncertainty faced by parents, she stated that it was only possible to confirm his status as a mass donor in 2025. An independent investigation into fertility clinic misconduct is expected to start in spring 2027 and conclude by 2030. The Inspectorate for Health and Youth is currently visiting clinics to review registration practices, while the expert center Fiom begins research into kinship networks among donor children.
