Rapper Ye's Mother Honored with Chicago Street Naming
The late mother of rapper Ye, Donda West, was honored with a street naming ceremony in Chicago on Tuesday. Ye, also known as Kanye West, attended the event at the intersection of 78th Street and South Shore Drive, which was named after his mother to recognize her contributions to education, literature, and culture in the city. Donda West served as a professor and head of the English department at Chicago State University, where she founded the Gwendolyn Brooks Center for Black Literature and Creative Writing. Ye posed with the new street sign but did not speak to the media during the ceremony. His mother passed away in 2007 at the age of 58.
