Significantly Fewer Votes for AfD in Second Round of Lower Saxony Elections, Resulting in No Mayor Positions
The far-right AfD party failed to secure any mayor positions in the second round of elections in the German state of Lower Saxony. In three municipalities where AfD candidates ran, they received significantly fewer votes than their opponents: CDU’s Frank Klingebiel won Salzgitter with 74.7 percent against AfD’s Patricia Mair, independent Anna Adamczak won Münster with 80.5 percent against AfD’s Christoph Weynand, and independent Jens Lüer won Bockenem with 69.6 percent against AfD’s Felix Mull.
