Continued Support for Women's Emancipation, but Conservative Views Strengthen

A four-yearly opinion poll by the universities of Amsterdam and Tilburg reveals that while support for women's emancipation remains high, it has slightly declined. The percentage of respondents who believe hitting a woman is never justified dropped from 86.5% to 84.2%, with researchers noting a concerning trend of increasing conservative views. Although religion itself does not determine attitudes toward violence against women, higher religiosity correlates with greater justification of such acts. Staatssecretaris Judith Tielen described the findings as frightening, while researchers Liza Mügge and Mark Boukes emphasized that media interpretations often exaggerate the data. Despite strong theoretical support for gender equality in leadership and education, practical disparities persist, with less than half of political leaders being women.
