Inheritance Used for Larger Homes with Solar Panels
A new study by the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) reveals that heirs receiving at least €50,000 are more likely to move than those who inherit less or nothing. Within three years of their parent's death in 2018, 21% of heirs moved compared to 14% of a control group. Many chose larger, detached homes, with 46% owning properties over 150 square meters after three years, up from 27%. Solar panel adoption among heirs rose significantly from 10% to 25%, outpacing the control group's steady 21%. The research aims to predict housing market impacts from the impending baby boomer mortality wave, though the CBS notes current market conditions differ from 2018.
