Poet Jules Deelder Now Has His Own Square in Rotterdam
Six years after his death, Rotterdam poet Jules Deelder has been honored with a square named J.A. Deelderplein in the city center. The naming followed regulations requiring a five-year waiting period post-death. Deelder’s daughter, Ari Deelder, expressed pride in the tribute, noting that her father preferred squares over streets and valued public engagement with his work. A statue was also unveiled at the location near his former home and favorite café.
