Fire Stations Must Adjust Work Processes Due to Surge in Break-ins
Dutch fire stations have temporarily adjusted work processes following a significant increase in break-ins, with 85 incidents reported this year compared to 17 and 18 in 2024 and 2025 respectively. The police announced the surge during the program Opsporing Verzocht, noting that while rescue operations were largely unaffected, essential hydraulic tools such as cutters and pumps were stolen. Twenty-one of 25 security regions confirmed at least one break-in or attempt since the start of the year. To compensate for missing equipment, some regions have deployed extra units from other barracks, resulting in lost time. A national investigation is underway, though financial damages remain under review.
