17 killed in AK-47 shooting at Johannesburg cafe, another 10 dead in Cape Town
Eight shooters armed with AK-47s and other firearms killed 17 people and injured 15 others at a cafe in Wedela, southwest of Johannesburg, on Tuesday evening. The victims included 13 men and four women, while the perpetrators robbed patrons and fled before police launched a manhunt with no arrests made yet. Separately, ten people died after unknown shooters opened fire at an establishment in Lwandle township, east of Cape Town, around 01:45 local time; five died at the scene, five later succumbed to injuries in hospital, and eleven others are being treated.
