Top Time and Victory for Assefa at Berlin Marathon Despite Torn Achilles Tendon
Ethiopian runner Tigst Assefa won the Berlin Marathon on Sunday with a torn Achilles tendon, finishing in a personal record of 2:11:04. Although she initially followed a world record pace, severe pain after the 31-kilometer mark prevented her from breaking the global record. Assefa improved her own course record and immediately traveled to Munich for surgery, with her manager Gianni Demadonna stating she may be sidelined for six months.
