Twelve People Sentenced to Death in Egypt, Including Crime Show Presenter
Egyptian TV presenter Sarah Khalifa and eleven others were sentenced to death in a major drug case, according to Al-Ahram on 2026-09-05. Authorities found over 750 kilograms of narcotics and drug-making materials, as well as firearms and ammunition. Khalifa, arrested in 2025, denies involvement, stating she only saw drugs when photographed by narcotics police. She will appeal the verdict. The death sentence, by hanging, was confirmed after consultation with Egypt’s grand mufti, as required by law. Amnesty International reported 492 death sentences in Egypt in 2025.
