Henk Kroes (87), chairman of the Elfstedentocht during the 1997 race, has died
Henk Kroes, former chairman of the Vereniging de Friesche Elfsteden, died at age 87. He announced the last Elfstedentocht in 1997 with the phrase “it giet oan” and served as ice master for 25 years before becoming chairman in 1994.
