Forced Asylum Seeker Accommodation Seems Inevitable Due to Municipal Requirements
Most municipalities in the Dutch province of North Brabant have set unrealistic requirements for asylum seeker housing, prompting the national government to likely decide on accommodation locations itself. While 56 municipalities are responsible for providing over 13,000 spots by late 2028, only about 6,000 are currently realized. Six municipalities, including Gemert-Bakel and Halderberge, have been summoned to explain their lack of progress. The COA states that small-scale temporary facilities are unfeasible and costly, advocating instead for long-term sites to ensure stability and integration.
